We Are Made for So Much More

January 2, 2022 - New Year

Gen 1 & 2; Ps 139; Is 43:7; 60:21; Eph 2:10; 4:24 — We are made for so much more. We are God’s children, kingdom people called and sent into this world to be kingdom builders erecting signs of God’s kingdom by living the kingdom life. We proclaim the gospel inviting people to come and see Jesus Christ, the only true Lord of the world, and through Him to enter the kingdom.

This is sermon was adapted from and developed based on chapter 1 of the book, Invention: Break Free from the Culture Hell-Bent on Holding You Back by Justin Camp.

Enter the Eternal Promised Land

December 19, 2021 - 4th Sunday of Advent

Joshua 1:1-9; 1 Pet 1:3-9; Heb 3:1-4:13 — Are we ready to enter the eternal promised land? When we consider God’s promises about the promised land for Israel and our own inheritance in heaven, we will steward our most important faith with the greatest care and look forward with anticipation to the revealing of Jesus Christ in his final advent.

This is part of our Advent series, The Bible, Our Book of Advents. This series is based upon and adapted from the sermon series by Dr. Dale A. Meyer, The Bible, Our Book of Advents: An Advent Sermon Series, (St. Louis, MO: Concordia Seminary Press, 2021).

Jesus Is King & Messiah, Lord & Savior

March 28, 2021 - Palm Sunday

Matthew 21:1-11 — On his way to the cross Jesus entered Jerusalem as King and Messiah. He encountered the crowds, the world, and us today as Lord and Savior. How do we respond to Him? Do we misunderstand Him as the crowds did? Are we ashamed of him and reject him because he does not meet our expectations? No, we believe that He is the real, true King of kings, Lord of the world, and the Messiah, the Savior of the world, and we follow Him on the way of the cross.

This sermon is part of our sermon series for the Lent season, 2021, The Way of the Cross.

Boast in the Lord Alone (Part 2)

March 21, 2021

1 Corinthians 1:26-2:5 — We have done nothing and there is nothing we can do to be saved and become children of God, kingdom people. Christ crucified and resurrected, the power and wisdom of God, reconciled us with God, redeemed (saved) us, and made us holy to live as God’s people. God called us. The power of the Holy Spirit brought about faith in us so that we believe in Jesus Christ. It is all grace, all God’s work in us. Therefore, we can and should boast in the Lord alone. He made us, who were nobodies, into somebodies, children of God, citizens of the kingdom of heaven.

This sermon is part of our sermon series for the Lent season, 2021, The Way of the Cross. For this sermon I owe much to the following sources — Wright, T. Repent!

January 10, 2021

Ezekiel 18:1-32; Revelation 1-3 — When we come face-to-face with the holiness of God, when we remember the work of Jesus Christ on the cross and our calling to be kingdom people and priests, then we need to repent. Repentance enables us to turn away from our unholiness toward holiness because our God is holy. Where do we need to repent in our personal lives? Where do we need to repent as a church? As God’s people nationwide? As God’s people globally?

This is part of our series during the 40 Days of Prayer.

We Are Wave-Walkers

October 11, 2020

Matthew 14:22-33 — In this storm, in this world, at this time, Jesus calls us to radical, extreme discipleship. He calls us to be wave-walkers. But we must get out of our boats to become wave-walkers and walk on the water with Jesus. Nothing is impossible. Wave-walkers take risks, expect problems, accept failure, and fear. However, wave-walkers overcome fear with faith. Faith focuses and remains focused on Jesus.

This is part of our sermon series, Love Never Fails, Love Conquers All.
