What Child Is This?

December 25, 2022

Isaiah 7:1-14; 9:2-7 & Matthew 1:18-25 — What child is this? This child is Jesus the Christ. Jesus is God with us. He is God for us and saves us. Jesus is God over us. He is our Lord and Savior, our only hope. How do you answer the question, what child is this? Who is this Child for you?

The Final Stone Rolled Away

April 17, 2022

Matthew 27:59-60; 28:2-6; Ephesians 2:5-8 — It is finished. The final stone is rolled away. The tomb is empty. Our Lord is alive and because He lives we live. He took away all our stones, all our sins. We are forgiven. We are free to live the new, eternal life He gives us.

Crying Stones

April 10, 2022

Luke 19:28-40 (Mt 21:1-11) — Jesus entered into this world and our lives as the Lord, Savior, and the King of Peace. What is our response? Are we going to be silent? Or are we going to shout it out to the world and live out the new life we have? We are His witnesses. We are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. If we are silent and fail in our calling and mission the stones will cry it out. We don’t want to be bettered and outdone by stones, do we?

Stones to Bread

April 3, 2022

Matthew 4:1-11; John 6:25-59 — Jesus, the Bread of Life, changed our stones of sin into the living bread that gives eternal life. On the cross He carried our stones, our sins, in our place. He took them away. His broken body became the Living Bread and his spilled blood the Living Water that gives us new, eternal life. When we come to Him and believe in Him we receive Him, the Bread of Life, and we live forever. At the cross we leave our stones and receive the bread, the living Bread that gives life to the world.

On This Rock

March 27, 2022

Matthew 16:13-19 — Who do we say Jesus is? He is the Christ the Son of the Living God. He is the Rock, the Foundation, and the Cornerstone of the Church. Upon this confession He builds His Church. When we make this confession we become the stones, the building blocks with which Jesus builds His Church and Kingdom. And His Church will never die or be overcome.

Sticks & Stones

March 20, 2022

John 8:1-11 — We should change the saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me” to read, "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can sting like anything" because words do hurt. We have all sinned. No one is okay. Therefore, we should not judge and throw stones at others. Sin blinds us to our sin and blinds us to our blindness. No one is okay but Jesus makes us okay. We should turn to Him. In his compassion and grace He forgives us and gives us a second chance, “Go and sin no more.”

Rejected Stones

March 13, 2022

Matthew 21:33-46; Psalm 118 — Jesus Christ, the rejected Stone became the Chief Cornerstone — the only Savior, the only foundation of God’s kingdom, the most important stone, who alone holds the church together. On the Cross He, the Living Stone made us into living stones. Because of the Chief, Living Cornerstone, we are no longer rejected stones but living stones, God’s people. We are the cornerstones of the world shining the light of the Chief Cornerstone into the world.

Written In Stone

March 7, 2022

Ex 19:4-6; 24:3,12-18; 31:18-32:20; Mt 5:4 — God’s covenant is written in stone. We shattered those stones through our disobedience and breaking our promises to God. We should mourn in confession and repentance, and our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, will comfort us. Lent is the time for us to mourn, to confess our sins, to repent, to let go of sin. It is the season for us to remember the sacrifice, suffering, and resurrection of our Savior; to remind ourselves why He had to make that ultimate sacrifice for us.
