Jesus Is Lord of His Church

June 12, 2022

Revelation 1:9-20 — Jesus Christ is the Lord God Almighty, the great I AM. He is Lord of his Church and as such, He is present with and holds her in his hands. Therefore, we do not fear. We fulfill our call as priestly kings by faithfully witnessing to Jesus. We endure suffering and tribulation. We remain faithful even in death because we know that we will ultimately overcome because Jesus overcame death and is the Living One who lives forever.

Revelation 1:1-8 & 22:6-21 — “I am coming soon.” This is the focus of Revelation when we read it as one, coherent book and story. The sovereign God, the Lord Almighty is in control of history. The Lord Jesus Christ is coming back to establish finally God’s kingdom in the new creation. This truth encourages and motivates us to worship God, persevere in persecution, obey Him by living the kingdom life, and so remain faithful witnesses to God’s love in this world.

Reading Revelation with Humility

May 22, 2022

Revelation 1:1-3 — How do we read Revelation? It is a powerful book that inspired many to sermons, theology, poetry, music, song, and worship. But unfortunately, Revelation has also been abused, misused, and misunderstood by many. It is an apocalyptic prophecy framed as a letter written by John to real churches in Asia. It is an exquisite literature piece inspired as such by the Holy Spirit. It communicates God’s Word to the first-century believers and to every generation since then. Therefore, we must read Revelation with awe, respect, and humility asking the Spirit to open our hearts and minds to hear His Word, to listen, and obey. We do this while we are praying all the time with the Church through the ages, “ Come, Lord Jesus.”

This is our sermon series for Lent, entitled, Journey to the Cross, A Journey of Stones. This series is adapted from and based on the following two books: Journey of Stones: A Sermon Series for Lent and Easter by Steven Molin and Journey to the Cross: A 40-Day Lenten Devotional by Paul D. Tripp.
