“I AM Has Sent Me to You”

December 12, 2021 - 3rd Sunday of Advent

Exodus 3:1–15; Deuteronomy 18:15 — When God’s people pray for deliverance in times of suffering, when we remember God’s sending Moses to Israel, foreshadowing the sending of Jesus for our redemption, then this brings us long-suffering, the promise of final deliverance, hope, peace, joy, and love. Trust that God is coming to you at all times, especially when you are going through rough times.

Christmas Is Not a Fairy Tale

December 25, 2020

Christmas Day — Luke 2:1-21: God acts in history to accomplish his kingdom purposes. God is not a storybook God. Jesus was born into this world, into this history. He is the Savior, Christ the Lord, who came, who lived, who died, who rose from the dead, and rules as the Lord of the Universe. He is God with us, always. This is the truth, this is the good news of Christmas.

All I Want Is Someone to Believe In

December 22 2019

Isaiah 52-53 — Who do you believe in? Who is your hero? All I want is someone to believe in. There is Someone! Jesus Christ the Lord! Jesus is the only true, living Superhero. His superpowers are real. He is alive, and working right now using his superpowers to save the world and people. Believe in Jesus!

This is part of our Advent 2019 series, All I Want for Christmas, based on selected passages from the book of Isaiah. The idea for the series title, All I Want for Christmas, is borrowed from the article by Matt Erickson, “Recovering the Wonder of Christmas: Four pathways for preaching during Advent,” in Preachingtoday.com, https://www.preachingtoday.com/skills/2019/november/recovering-wonder-of-christmas.html. The sermons, however, are original.
